There are many gynaecological issues that affect females of reproductive age. They impact women’s hormonal balance and their psychological health and can make them irritable and cause their moods to swing. Some of the most common gynaecological issues are:

1. Irregular Menses

An irregular period is one of the most common issues in females. It is a condition in which periods become unpredictable, missing the expected date and appearing on a random day. Or may come more than once a month or may miss for a few months, then appear. Flow may be lighter or heavier than usual. There may be bleeding between periods.

2. PCOS/PMOS

Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously named polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), is a condition in which there is a hormonal imbalance in females. This may lead to irregular menses and formation of cyst-like structures in the ovaries. PMOS also cause the level of male sex hormone to increase in females, causing excessive facial hair. This hormonal imbalance also causes acne and weight gain. It makes it difficult for women to get pregnant.

3. Uterine Fibroid

A uterine fibroid is an abnormal growth of uterine tissue and muscle mass that can occur in the uterine wall, uterine cavity, or on the outer surface of the uterus. In most cases, it is a benign (non-cancerous) condition. When fibroids are small, they do not cause symptoms, but as they grow, they may cause heavy menstrual bleeding, back pain, and discomfort during coitus. Uterine fibroids mostly occur during the reproductive age of a female.

4. Uterine Polyp

A uterine polyp is a finger-like projection that forms on the inner lining of the uterus. They may form as a single structure or in groups. Uterine polyps mostly form during a woman’s menopausal transition years. But it can form during the earlier reproductive years, too, especially in women who suffer from hormonal imbalances. In rare cases, a uterine polyp can be malignant and needs proper investigation.

5. Vaginal issues

The common vaginal issues are

• Vaginal infection such as yeast infections, or bacterial infections.
• Dryness, burning, and pain during coition.
• UTI (Urinary Tract Infection).

6. Fertility Issues

Infertility can be either primary or secondary:

Primary infertility is when you have never been pregnant and are unable to get pregnant after trying for one year if you are under 35 years of age, or if your age is above 35 and you are trying for six months.

Secondary infertility is when you have previously been pregnant at least once but can’t get pregnant again. There can be many causes of infertility; it needs proper investigation.
