Graphites is an amazing homeopathy medicine that was introduced into the homeopathic system by Dr Samuel Hahnemann. It is prepared from graphite by the trituration method (a method of preparing homeopathic medicine).

Constitution of Graphites
The Graphites patients are those who tend to gain weight very easily, with skin complaints and constipation. It is a chilly remedy. These patients take cold very easily and are sensitive to drafts of air.
It is also indicated in women with a history of delayed and suppressed menses. Women who feel morning sickness during menstruation and are very weak.
Mental Symptoms of Graphites
Mentally these patients are timid and hesitant. They find it hard to decide something. These patients have a great dread of mental and physical work. They do not want to perform work that needs mental or physical effort.
These patients are sad/despondent. They don’t like listening to music. The sound of music makes them more sad. Some Graphites patients have an unusual sensation of cobweb on their face and forehead. They have also Fidgety while sitting at work.

Skin symptoms
The homeopathic remedy Graphites has great use in various skin issues when symptoms match with this medicine. The skin of these patients is very unhealthy and is prone to pimples and acne. The eruptions of Graphites patients ooze a sticky, white, transparent fluid. This oozing of sticky fluid is a characteristic symptom in most of the Grphites skin complaints.
Graphites can be effectively used in eczema. Skin in case of Graphites eczema will be dry or will complicate to weeping eczema. In the case of weeping eczema if fluid inside the blisters oozes out it will be sticky, white and transparent. There will be dryness in the portion of skin unaffected by eczema.
In the patients of this medicine, there is a tendency to suppuration of injuries. So the patient’s minute injuries can suppurate and can be slow to heal. The patient’s old cicatrices could easily break open again.
There are eruptions between fingers and toes. These eruptions are itchy and ooze out a watery, transparent, sticky honey-like fluid.
The Graphites also has action on the early stages of keloid and fibroma. And the Erysipelas that started on the face and spread to other parts.
These patients have skin complaints behind the ears, bend of joints, groins and on the scalp. Their nails are deformed, brittle and crumbling and have soreness as if they are ulcerated. They may also have eczema of the eyelids.
Eye Symptoms
The eyes of Graphites patients have inflamed conjunctivitis (ophthalmia) with intolerance of artificial light and daylight.
There is eczema of eyelids in which eyelids are red and swollen with scales or crusts on the margins. This eczema on eyelids has eruptions from which there is oozing of sticky fluid and they have fissures in it. The eyelids also get itchy during this condition.
Ear Symptoms
The Graphites patient has a characteristic hearing symptom that they hear better in a noisy environment like while riding a noisy vehicle or while working in a noisy environment.
This medicine is also used in otorrhoea (the discharge from the ear). The discharges are sticky, offensive smelling and may contain blood and pus in it. They also might get the sensation that air is enclosed in the eustachian tube or the sensation of water filled in the ear.
This homeopathic medicine has excellent use in tinnitus. Tinnitus is hearing an unusual sound inside the ears that is not present in the surroundings. These unusual sound in medicine graphites can be hissing, whistling or buzzing type. This buzzing sound will be more prominent at night. The patient of Graphites will also hear a cracking sound in his ear while moving his jaws or while eating. The person will have hearing difficulty. The Graphite patient does not like music at all, music makes him sad and increases his troubles.
This remedy is also used for eruption and moisture behind the ears. There may also be fissures (cracks) behind the ear, or fissures may also be inside the ear.
Graphites Use in Face Symptoms
The Graphites patients have dirty-looking skin they have itching pimples on their face. Eczema on the nose, around mouth and chin. The eczema around the mouth and chin is mostly moist.
They have burning and stinging erysiplas on their face. This erysipelas tends to spread to other parts.
The Graphites medicine has a symptom that the patient feels a sensation of cobwebs on his forehead and face. And he constantly tries hard to brush it off.
The person may have flushes of heat on the face. The burning sensation is also in a round spot on the vertex (the highest point on the head).
Graphites Use in Gastrointestinal Tract Symptoms
The Graphites patient is generally constipated. The stool of the patient is hard, knotty, and difficult to evacuate. The stool is in lumps and these lumps are united together with mucous threads.
The mucus membrane of these patients gets very dry which causes fissures in the anus. These fissures cause sharp pain in the anus after stool.
These patients may also form haemorrhoids that will protrude outside while passing stool this will cause burning pain, cracks and fissures.
They have periodic gastralgia with vomiting of entire food just after eating. These symptoms of nausea and vomiting will be more prominent in the morning. They have increased salivation in the mouth with a putrid taste and foul odour with much spitting.
These patients have a history of constipation but there may be diarrhoea sometimes. The stool in their diarrhoea will have a very strong foul odour mixed with undigested food material.
Drinking hot milk gives these patients amelioration in symptoms of constipation and gastralgia.
Graphites Use in Female Complains
This remedy is very frequently indicated in females of menopausal age who have a tendency to accumulate fat and are getting hot flushes. And in females who are inclined to get fat and have a history of amenorrhoea, irregular and delayed menstruation.
These females have coryza, cough, hoarseness of voice, sweat and morning sickness during their menstruation. They feel very weak and prostrated during menses.
This remedy is of excellent use in leucorrhea before and after menses. This leucorrhea is excoriating and acrid.
It is a wonderful remedy when the mammary glands of females feel sore, swollen and hard. The nipples have cracks, blisters and soreness. The lactating mothers have abnormal retardation of the flow of milk.
Male Sexual Symptoms of Graphites
These patients have sexual debility due to sexual excess. They may have emission of semen almost involuntary without erection or absence of emission of semen during coition.
Modalities of Graphites
The modalities are a very important factor in homeopathy when looking for a suitable homeopathic remedy for the patient. Modalities are how a patient’s complaints get worse (aggravation) and how they get better (amelioration).
Aggravation By:
The symptoms of Graphites patients aggravate during the night, extremes of temperature, cold drinks, draught of cold air and before and after menstruation.
Amelioration By:
These patients’ symptoms get better by warm drinks especially hot milk, when they are wrapped up in clothes, in the open air, by eruction and from eating.
